Pre-K PROGRAM

The Rochelle Elementary School District #231 provides a Pre-Kindergarten program for children 3-5 year olds.  This is an At-Risk Pre-K program and is funded by the Illinois State Board of Educations’ Early Childhood Competitive Grant.  This program is offered at no charge to qualifying children who reside within the Rochelle Elementary School District service area (includes Creston, Kings, Eswood and Stewart).  This program is comprised of three Pre-Kindergarten classrooms.  The classroom teachers are certified early childhood professionals.  The curriculum focuses on preparing children for success in school.  In addition, this program provides a quality center based environment along with parental support and education.  Further information about student eligibility can be found under Registration.

CURRICULUM

NAEYC Guidelines, Illinois Early Learning Standards and Creative Curriculum are the foundations of our preschool curriculum.  Every classroom is unique just as every teacher and group of children is unique.  Lessons and activities are developed based on the needs of the children within the room.

ELIGIBILITY FOR PRE-K / ENROLLMENT

All children must participate in a screening process to be considered for Pre-K.  Parents are encouraged to bring all 3 and 4 year old children to Hicks Hall Methodist Church for screenings.  For a screening appointment, please call Ogle County Education CoOp (OCEC) at 815-234-2722, ext. 100.  An experienced team of early childhood professionals spends about 45 minutes working with each child to determine if the child is performing at his or her expected level.  The vision and hearing of each child is also checked.  The Early Childhood Screening is a valuable service offered free of charge that benefits all families in the Rochelle School District #231.

There is a list of criteria that we review to determine eligibility in our PreK program.   Children who have a higher at-risk score will be placed in the program first.  We also place 5 year olds who have missed the Kindergarten cutoff date and 4 year olds before enrolling any 3 year olds.  After all students with at-risk factors have been placed and there is still space available, we will consider all other applicants.

Documents that are required to attend PreK:  Current Physical and Immunization records and Birth Certificate (certified copy issued by the court house).

Please contact Alejandra Tenorio at 815-562-4520, Ext. 8, between the hours of 8:30 am to 3:30 pm for further information about our Pre-School program.
